MUDr. Vladko Bydžovský: A doctor with the soul of an aquarist

Imagine someone who masterfully navigates the complexities of the human brain while lovingly caring for the delicate ecosystem of an aquarium. MUDr. Vladko Bydžovský is not only a top neurologist but also a renowned and successful aquarist.

Neurology

• He studied human medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Hradec Králové and continues to work as a private neurologist.
• In 2009, he became the 9th neurologist in the Czech Republic to become a member of the prestigious American Academy of Neurology.

Aquaristics

• His aquarist journey began in 1955 when, as a young boy, he fell in love with livebearers.
• His first successfully bred egg-laying fish were cardinal tetras in 1955.
• During his studies, he also dedicated himself to killifish, labyrinth fish, and cichlids.
• Since the early 1960s, however, his main interest has been tetras, followed by South American dwarf cichlids and corydoras catfish.
• Since 1985, he has mainly devoted himself to novelties and rarities, again mainly tetras and pencilfish.

Scientific Articles and Lectures

• He shares his experience through numerous scientific lectures and articles,
• to date a total of 242, of which 104 in the German-speaking region, 730 scientific articles, of which 86 abroad, mainly in the German-speaking region.
• He has written 5 books, for example this year he published the publication Pencilfish and Slender tetras.
• As the only Czech, he has given a scientific lecture twice at the Austrian congresses ÖVVÖ (1995 Vienna, 2009 Neusiedl am See) and also twice at the congresses of German aquarists VDA (1995 Borken, 2017 Dachau), even three times at the meeting of German labyrinth fish breeders (2001 Ruhmannsfelden, 2018, 2022 Schönwald).
