I have no doubt that the readers of ForAquarist have noticed that we recently published several very interesting articles revealing news from the world of pencilfish.

All articles had a common author - the world-famous aquarist, expert and author of books, Dr. Vladek Bydžovský. If you are interested in the topic and would like to learn more, you have a unique opportunity.

Dr. Bydžovský has published a new book "Pencilfish and Pygmy Hatchetfish", which is an absolute must-have for every inquisitive aquarist to include in their aquarium library. Of course, I have already ordered mine 😊

Interesting articles by the author

The author's life changed after he bought his first Nannostomus fish. He describes this in the article entitled Nannostomus sp. super red - red pencilfish. Because Dr. Bydžovský has an overview of current events, he also wrote an article about the new species Nannostomus sp. CEARA RED: A new gem from Brazil. The article Mysterious "Red Bull": A new star among pencilfish, describing Nannostomus sp. cf. trifasciatus "Red Bull", a completely new species whose origin is speculated about, was also a great success. For now, this has concluded the series devoted to pencilfish.

Pencilfish and Pygmy Hatchetfish for all aquarists

Pencilfish / Pygmy Hatchetfish are widespread in large areas of South America, where they inhabit the upper layers of slow-flowing or stagnant waters in the rainforests of the Amazon and Orinoco basins, as well as in areas of Guyana. They are ideal fish for home aquariums with a size of 20-100 l.

Unlike other families, they have the advantage of producing minimal waste, so aquarium maintenance is simple, frequent water changes and filter washing are eliminated. Room temperature water is ideal. In addition, they are fish with unusually interesting life manifestations. They are usually slightly territorial, so there is always something going on in the aquarium. Males often engage in usually harmless fights with each other and court females.

Those who want to move from simple keeping to breeding will also find these details in the book. However, the book is also useful for aquarists who deal with other families of aquarium fish, especially tetras or cichlids.
